little india with a dane

saturday 1 august

most of yesterday & today was pretty uneventful.
yesterday afternoon my friends and i went to the mall at queensway with three kids from hong kong.

nothing happened today, but in the evening, my new friend from denmark and i decided to visit little india. it's about an hour bus & mrt (the subway system) ride away from campus.

all of the road names in little india are written in both english & hindi.

the streets are lined with indian spices, goods, clothing, restuarants, and jewelry all the while blasting indian music from the stereos.

from one of the stalls i bought a bag made from indian fabrics for about 7 usd but i'm still convinced i was too nice to the salesman.

afterwards, matias and i had a late dinner in one of the hawker centers (big open markets that usually have around 7-10+ different food stalls). it was the most expensive meal i've had at singapore so far, ringing in at a whopping 5 singapore dollars (around 3 us$) including food and drink. it was also the most disappointing meal ever so i got a chicken curry bun (around .70 us$) afterwards instead of finishing my food.

one of the street vendors told me to try bandung juice. apparently a very tasty treat in singapore so i agreed. bandung juice is a mixture of rose water, milk, sugar, and pink food coloring. i personally didn't like it too much though and think sugarcane juice is way better.
