underwater world.... should go underwater.

wednesday 5 august

today my friends and i were supposed to lounge around at the beach, but because of the rain, our plans changed. i was highly in favor of going to the art museum or the culture center, but no -- my friends decide to go to the underwater world aquarium in sentosa.

i'm all for animals and all, but really? you can go to an aquarium anywhere else in the world. unfortunately, i got dragged into their little escapade and ended up paying 22$ for the lamest aquarium i have ever seen. the only good thing about it was that we got to see a dolphin show for buying entry into the aquarium. the dolphins in singapore apparently are not your regular old american dolphins, but pink!

so you can't tell from the top picture, but this is what the dolphins looked like upclose.

anyways, what i personally found more exciting was the lunch that we had at vivocity. we ate at this huge indoor hawker center type deal called food republic.

there were so many different things to eat that finding food was nearly impossible.
i settled on a pretty famous singaporean food called chicken laksa. a sort of noodle dish with curry sauce, chicken, tofu, coriander, and chili sauce.

for dessert, my friends and i tried the singaporean version of 팥빙수.

this is called ice kachang. underneath all that multi-colored flavored ice are beans and jelly (maybe grass or aloe vera jelly) with a side of vanilla ice cream. it's okay, but the korean version is way better.

another thing that i find interesting about singapore is the way they sell fruit.
all the fruit are precut and sold by the slice. in this picture are honeydew, watermelon, dragonfruit, yellow watermelon, and apples.

on the other side of the case were papaya, pineapple, coconut jelly, skewered apples, and coconuts. the fruit here is all really fresh and the pineapples are delicious. mmm.

tomorrow i'm off to the macritchie reservoir (free--- hooray!) to explore some nature trails and jungle paths.
